Mobile Application Policy

Every web application has an architecture and is engineered to also be a mobile application.   LeXica Ltd lead (in 2004) the smooth evolution from client-server systems to web-based application services; and now (in 2014) leads the way towards mobile applications.   Greater levels of working flexibility is needed to maximise productivity and using a mobile phone to access all business data is both logical and cost effective.
The era of the keyboard and mouse will exist in parallel for the next decade, but the portable era of touch screen technology will smoothly evolve to replace what was done with a mouse.   It would be silly to imagine that the same application design is applicable to both a mouse-keyboard computer and a touch phone-tablet device - application design must continually evolve.

Every Platform

It would be silly for anybody to provide an application service on one very specific platform - flexibility means that all types of mobile phones and tablets must be supported.   LeXica Ltd platform policy is very simple:
* Application architecture is basically HTML5 with CSS and JS as appropriate.
* Initial testing uses an Android (85%) distribution library so the application can be distributed from a Google App Store.
* Secondary testing uses an iOS (12%) distribution library so the application can be distributed from the Apple App Store.
* Final testing uses a Windows (3%) distribution library so the application can be distributed from the Microsoft App Store.
* Linux, Mer, Ubuntu, Tizen and Mozilla (Firefox) devices are naturally supported using applicable browsers - downloading and distribution is not needed.
* Sorry Blackberry OS is not in any cost effective business plan, but any owner can make a proposal to influence the financial viability of this platform.
* Camera facilities require bespoke programming for each platform - for example; photograph and upload an image of a driving license or ID card demands platform specific library functions.

Customer Profile

Applications begin in a business-to-business context because that is where LeXica Ltd comes from and excels.   However over time, the Apps created will tend to evolve into the public customer market because that is where most revenue can be earned.   Because apps are generated from IEM specifications, the number of apps delivered to the market can become massive.   Because the quality of LeXica Ltd apps is much higher than the competition, it is fair and reasonable to directly compete in many market places where revenue can be earned.
Short term: business-to-business people with a simple monthly subscription fee after the first month.
Longer term: business-to-customer people with a simple monthly subscription fee after a "free" tuition period.

Business Model

While competitors may choose to treat their business model as a trade secret, LeXica Ltd choose to be open and transparent in all matters.   The first principal is that all apps are assets that create regular cash flow, rather than a one-off capital gain.   This dictates that extremely good customer service, education and support is critical to every app in order to maintain long term regular payments.   LeXica Ltd is highly motivated to provide the best-in-the-world app in any market sector and must continue to keep that the very best in order to keep earning revenue.
Competitors tend to focus on a one-off capital gain from each app sale that means they are not motivated for long term education, support or customer service.   While competitors focus on short term capital gains, LeXica Ltd focus on long term cash flow, long term customer relationships, continual improvements, education and earning customer loyalty.

  topic image

Education

The only reason that a person would not rent an LeXica Ltd app is because the education provided was not good enough.   Applications only exist where it is cost effective to use that app to improve a persons productivity and to make them more effective.   The role of marketing is to provide education so people can see the cost benefits of use an LeXica Ltd app, rather than any competitors app.
In the very short term, competition from so called "free" apps can be ignored - LeXica Ltd is not in the business of stealing and selling peoples data in return for a "free" app.   One day, those people that choose "free" apps will figure out that no company can provide "free" apps and expect to remain in business, unless that company is selling data collected by their applications.

  topic image

Ownership

LeXica Ltd ensures that each customer owns their own data and can always access their own data.   Where an app is provided "free" of charge, then the application data belongs to the application provider who may sell it to the highest bidder.   An example may be Google Mail where Google state that all emails are read to discover what a person is interested in so marketing can be sold in a cost effective way.   Each Gmail person is aware that their messages are being read and the information sold - that is not the way LeXica Ltd operate and the reason for the subscription fee.

  topic image

Architecture

LeXica Ltd is an Information Engineering Methodology driven factory to delivered 100% international standard HTML applications.   While competitors flit and change between many C# and C++ libraries, ACRM is simplistic HTML and open source.   Millions of people test HTML on every browser every day so LeXica Ltd does not have the cost of testing standard HTML pages on every browser.   By avoiding C-type programming then program testing is eliminated and the impact of programming errors is eliminated - ACRM apps cannot have a program defect.

  topic image

Multi-National

LeXica Ltd is an multi-national organisation with engineers in all parts of the world - people can undertake ITIL tasks from any part of the world and development is distributed to where the best people are location.   While initial documentation and specifications are in English. any UTF-8 supported human language is automatically supported by the ACRM architecture.   Where a customer in Greece need to enter data using the Greek alphabet and symbols. then that is automatically built into every app.   Code-description options are designed in such a way as to provide a degree of language translation so company data can flow between countries with common methods of working.
LeXica Ltd build applications using a left-to-right language design that can be switched to a right-to-left design, but it is likely that extra space will need to be assigned - data tends to need more space.   An objective is to support multi-national corporations who have people in all countries in the world and to enable those people to use their own language.   This objective is not easy to achieve and bespoke issues may need bespoke solutions to match local requirements.   The key factor is that with diligence, these multi-national issues can be solved in a cost effective way.

Multi-Currency

LeXica Ltd is an International company that provides multi-currency accounting application services.   Tax laws in each country are unique however the foundation of double account ledgers is universal and so all the basic financial data can be stored with little concern for evolving tax laws.   UK VAT and HMRC returns are automatically prepared for most small companies using simple cash accounting rules.   These returns may be adjusted by suitably qualified accountants where extra allowances and trading rules apply.
Transaction currency conversion to a base currency may be done at the transaction level using a spot exchange rate or may use mid-month average exchange rate for larger accounts that are retained in the transaction currency.   Rules can be provided to write off exchange rate fluctuation differences between invoice and payment amounts.   VAT and annual returns are able to identify the country where the customer trade took place and well as a currency.

Security

LeXica Ltd applications implement the very highest levels of security, privacy and Digital Rights Management (DRM).   Business data is not just secure, it has multiple layers of secure encryption to the point that some may say excessive.   Experience has shown that every clever encryption method has eventually been broken - experience has demonstrated that multiple layers of different encryptions methods have not been broken.
LeXica Ltd operates DRM to ensure that business data that belongs to an owner cannot be viewed by any other person - not even system administrators.   To protect LeXica Ltd system administrators from criminal attacks and legal blackmail, it is publically stated that no system administrator has rights or privaleges to view an owners encrypted business data.

Scope

LeXica Ltd do not have the right to choose what applications people wish to subscribe to - LeXica Ltd have the right to offer as many applications as it is possible to evaluate, understand, design and deliver.   The license to distribute applications via an app store is 99 USD for one app or for one thousand apps - distributing one hundred apps is better than having one app.   Marketing is key to cash flow - education is key to marketing.   When a person registers for a new app, they get free of charge, a new educational video every day for a week - training is the key to getting the person productive as soon as possible.   Because cash flow is dependent on keeping the customer happy in the longer term, every opportunity to help and work with the customer must be taken.   Improvement ideas from one person can rapidly be provided to all people - this leads to greater value for money from the customer point of view.
Providing the best-in-the-world app in each market sector may begin by being at-least-as-good as competitors and then with continual improvements becoming the best-in-the-world.   As in all marketing races, it it first important to be in the race before planning how to win the race.   To plan to win the race, but to only get on the podium will still generate adequate cash flow.

Enterprise Class

LeXica Ltd has earned the reputation to provide enterprise class applications for the small business owner and the large multi-national owner.   The foundation policy is very simple and effective: first a fully working application is demonstrated and then that application is continually improved and refined to match local business requirements.   It is understood that most competitors are not able to cost justify the critical continual improvement business requirement in return for a modest monthly subscription, but by employing the very best people from all parts of the world. this extraordinary benefit can be provided.   While competitors look for short term (risk free) capital gains, LeXica Ltd has all focus on long term cash flow - LeXica Ltd takes on and resolves all technology risks.

Download Issues

Mobile apps carry massive expensive overheads of download and update in comparison with web applications that are always current and up to date.   Each mobile app will initially test its release level and apply critical updates that may be required.   This encourages a functional split between what is downloaded and what can be accessed online as an when needed - is off-line working permitted for all functions?
As a general rule, business data is too valuable and too important to be stored on an off-line mobile device that may be stolen or lost.   When business data is saved, it must be encrypted and stored on at least two secure remote data centres - the local storage of valuable business data is rarely good enough.   As a special case, the odd off-line functional capability can be provided, but this is always an exception.

Automated Testing Issues

LeXica Ltd has perfected automated testing of web applications but mobile applications have many more variables of language, platform, version, release levels and screen size.   This means that testing simulators are even more important to keep development costs under control.   To test an application on every platform and screen size from 2 inches to 4 inch, 7 inch, 10 inch and then 15 and 20 inches demands a lot of fully working technology.
LeXica Ltd Quality Management has proved to be a major reason that costs can be controlled, but quality management is even more important when so many platforms, screens sizes and versions must be supported at the same time.   The life history of every component is critical documentation so stability can be provided to all platforms and continual improvements can be delivered with consistency and security.   Change Managers and Project Managers and in control of all development - Development Engineers may rarely see an entire application.   Agile development methods are implemented with very comprehensive documentation and specification management - Information Engineering Methodology (IEM).

Eliza

"Eliza" is the facilities within every app that continually monitor user actions, reports warnings and errors, will trigger exception reports and will execute scheduled tasks - Eliza is an artificial intelligent expert system.   A pro-active form of customer service is provided where before a customer can report that they are experiencing difficulties, Eliza will have reported the issue and will be offering real-time tutorials.   First level support people can generally call or message a person as soon as a problem is experienced and before that person has reported the problem.   Exceptional customer support comes from monitoring every user action to make sure that behaviour is as expected - the few exceptions then get maximum focus and LeXica Ltd get an idea of where improvements could be made.   Eliza is like an assistant who can do scheduled tasks such as regular invoicing, stock level checks and VAT returns.

Native Android

Where an App needs to interact with its hardware sensors, then a native App is needed - HTML is not good enough.   Because each native App must be restricted to its own operating platform and even a specific edition.   Android means Java where Java is similar to PHP, but Google Java is only similar to Oracle Java.
The fact that Facebook and Linkedin began as HTML Apps and evolved to native Apps is an indication that HTML is not good enough when hardware sensor integration is demanded.   Where any native application functionality is demanded, then Android Jave is the only way to go - other platforms will demand an extra design and development team that will be hard to cost justify.
Java must be used for interaction with camera, accelerometers and speakers - photograph to upload needs a bit of Java.   Google GWT and MGWT provide CSS transformations for desktop and mobile presentation layers.   HTML Flexible Box Model must be used - DIV not TABLE.   Design for mouse may be 2 pixels while design for touch may be 30 to 40 pixels - not compatible, no common design.

Market Share

Google, Apple and Microsoft are obliged to fight patent wars that must make each plaform unique and different to other platforms.   Navigation must be unique, use of icons must be unique, gestures must be unique and even user interface controls must be unique.   As each platform becomes more unique, it is hard to imagine how any generic HTML App can expect to match the user expectations for each platform.
No common standards are expected for a decade, so Apple and Microsoft can only survive by getting more and more unique.   The world has already adopted the Android user-interface method of working, so either only Android will survive, or some cross licensing deal will permit HTML to take on patented controls.   With Google already at 85% of the market, it is fair to say that Apple and Microsoft have a lot to do just to stay viable.

  topic image

Competition

The mobile App market is saturated by a few big corporations that earn 90% of all revenues, they dominate all marketing and leave little room for independent vendors.   Page ranking in each App store is controlled by big corporations who own many hundreds of Apps - their marketing budget dominates everything.   Each App store is a licensed monopoly that is highly protected for each platform - these earn massive revenue streams.
The Google App Store can be avoided with Android Apps downloaded from any web site - Apple demand only licensed Apps can be downloaded with revenue sharing.   Many leading edge entreprenours have got out of the App market because it is saturated and dominated by a few big coorporations.

  topic image

Build Purpose

It is self-evident that most App companies are built on the back of one good idea to boom and be sold.   Big corporations are happy to buy proven App companies as a cheap research method that is free of risk and has good cash flow for many years.
LeXica Ltd is very different, neither one good idea to boom and be sold or a big corporation buying good ideas as a kind of reasearch.   technology exists to create long term cash flow with continual improvements - not a one good idea.   LeXica Ltd exists as a way of life, rather than a short-term company to be sold for a one-off capital gain.

Brand

Brand is everything - the focus of all marketing and publicity on a daily basis.
AB or ABLE is a prefix that will get a good ranking in many alphabewstically sorted application stores.   Able2Energy, Able2Invoice, Able2Game, Able2Calendar....

  topic image

Simplicity

In the good old day, making a product evaluation proof by incorporating every possible function was a way to win in the corporate business market.   In the small business or trade market, simplicity is everything - attention span is no more than 5 minutes to learn a new tool to make them more effective.   Very few people want to make themselves ten times more effective, they simply want to make their daily job a little easier - just a little so it is not a major change to what they do.
People are frightened by change and so tiny improvements is the best they are willing to pay a tiny amount for.   The fully comprehensive and totally integrated solution is anly applicable to companies with 20 or more employees.

Machine Identity

JavaScript is able to capture a lot of hardware information to be able to uniquely identify each mobile device with cookies.   Cookies can store key physical characteristics to make the mobile device a unique authentication dongle - sign in passwords can be avoided and a simplisitic pin can be used.
Screen resolution must be stored in cookies. User preferences can be stored in cookies - they are deletable. What is in remote cookies cannot be globally analysed.

Performance

Mobile processors are slow and battery life must be conserved with modest amounts of processing.   Data can be downloaded in parts: initial screen data then load other data for subsequent processing - complex design.
Mobile icon sizes are excessive and contary to mobile processing capabilities and the need to minimise download time - this means caching is critical.   Manufacturers have excessive standard image sizes and densitities that create performance issues - but manufactures have dedicated staff to do optimisation.   The cost of design and development is made artificially high by manufacturers who do not want killer apps to dominate any App store.   By definition, to create a better user interface than Android would not be permitted.

EDUCATION

The future is education, education and education - not Apps.   Every generation needs to buy more education - those that sell education have an asset with recurring cash flow.
Education begins with eBooks, ePublications, videos and anything that can provide education in a more effective way than the ineffective class-room.   The education establishment has failed and will follow the retail market into a spiral of decay - scools are not good enough to give people the education they want.   Marketing has evolved from slick adverts to education - people want the facts so they can make educated decisions, rather than be sold to.   Timeing is everything - education is the new technology - YouTube has a head start and Amazon eBooks have a head start, but content is where the money is to be made.   Education has a high demand and low supply - it is leading edge - it is easy to compete head-to-head with any school.   Japan and Asia has proven that when given the choice, parents will pay for extra education for their children - mobile on-line is simply the cheapest delivery mechanism.
