Eco Server

It is a business requirement to minimise application service provision costs.   Energy costs are continually increasing and this makes it a critical to reduce energy usage year-on-year.
It is a strategic direction to evolve from grid electricity to "free" solar electricity.   Solar electricity is stored in sealed bateries to extend energy availability from daylight hours to night time.   The benefit of operating all lighting and computer equipment on 24 volts is that energy costs can trend towards zero.

Benchmark

The Virgin Eco Server operates at about 45 watts - one unit per day - £39 per year.   The current eco project is to reduce the Eco server energy usage to 15 watts while providing the same mixed application services.   A next Eco Server must operate at about 15 watts - £13 per year.   By reducing energy costs by 33%, application service provision can continue without a subscription fee increase.
It is likely that competitors are paying normal energy prices that are increasing by up to 10% year-on-year.   This is part of the justification that competitors increase costs year-on-year - they are simply passing on energy costs.
